Pete Lans -Thrum - Book Review

Publisher: Pete Lans, 2014.
Genre: Women’s Fiction.
Length: 207 pages.

Delightfully naughty. A quirky, humorous take on how the feminine power-hold transforms a town.

You need to be aware that I know this author. That fact doesn't change my review and I certainly wasn't asked to give it. If you've read my policy, you know I don’t review books if I don’t like them. I felt compelled to write this because I did enjoy the book and I'm aware that if I had not known the author I probably wouldn't have found it and that’s a travesty.

Our main character is a man. Yes, a women's fiction that centres on a man, but believe me this story is all about women.

I reviewed this one yesterday. I love Chance's sense of humour ("HUE-MA").

"I rolled my eyes, too tired to fight with him again and spoke to the clerk, "Can you make my room facing west, not on the ground floor, and an even number, if possible?"

"I'd like mine with a bed, toilet and television, if that's possible." He grinned, bating me. "

Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland - Cocky Bastard - Book Review

Publisher: Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland, 2015.
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Length: 337 pages.

Funny and delicious! There’s more to the Cocky Aussie than meets the eye.

Aubrey Bloom has uprooted her life to make a fresh start across the country from her cheating ex. She meets Chance Bateman at a rest stop, both of them snickering at each other’s mutual mechanical misfortune. Chance devises a plan; he fixes her tyre, she gives him a ride to California. Beneficial for both and ultimately life changing.

Aubrey knows that inviting a stranger into her car is asking for trouble, but she senses that Chance isn’t a threat to her life. No, he’s dangerous in an entirely different way. The road trip brings them closer and temptation becomes harder and harder to resist. Just as things seem to be coming together, a dramatic change causes Aubrey’s fears to become a reality and she has to fight to pick up the pieces.

Firstly, I am an Aussie, so I was extra curious about this book. There was no way I wasn’t going to read it even if the cover wasn’t as—cheeky. I don’t know any Aussie that pronounces Aubrey - ‘Ah Bree’, but that’s the only thing that caused me trouble.

Aubrey is an intelligent professional - with a bleeding heart. She’d take in any injured or defenceless animal if she could. She’s a people pleaser. Unfortunately, this means sometimes people take advantage of her good nature. She starting afresh determined to change her luck.

Chance sees Aubrey’s true passions and encourages her to embrace that part of herself. He’s on a journey of his own and his time with Aubrey means more to him than she could possibly understand.

This book is divided into two parts. The first part involves the delicious build of sexual tension and yearning for the forbidden. Prepare for a twist! When I finished part one, I was a bit speechless; transforming into a human flycatcher. The way the story develops from there makes the reader fall in love with Chance for who he is and his values, not just his model body. I loved his cheekiness, perseverance and his determination to make the most out of devastating circumstances.

The goat scenario is hilarious (read it to find out!).

Fabulous book!

4.5 flares.

Cheers

Hi all,
Today I'm participating in the Friday 56 meme. It's Friday here in Oz already.
In honour of her recent visit to Brisbane, I'll be sharing a line from Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare. Published by Walker Books Ltd, 2013.
I love all Cassandra's books. I'm actually a huge fan of YA and paranormal/ fantasy. And there's a bit of romance in this series, too. So—win, win.

Another sexy Aussie, whoop!

Warbling Me - August Roundup

Hi All,

 Here’s what’s happening:

August has left the building ... or calendar. Whatever. You know what I mean. We had 29 C last week during winter, so nature may as well bring on spring. Is it starting to cool off in the northern half?
In our little household, man flu has settled into Computer Guy's body, congregating in his nasal and chest cavities. Ever tried to sleep next to someone who sounds like they're trying to breathe under water? No? I wouldn't recommend it. Total waste of time. Thank goodness analgesics and decongestants.
Consequently, my desk chair has been accommodating my derrière late into the night. I love the night hours when it's just me and the sound of my pencil scratching thoughts onto a page (and the gurgling snores from down the hall). The late hours are when my characters are most active, projecting their activities onto the dream screen in my sleepy, sometimes semi-conscious mind.
I love it when the story solidifies into a comprehensible form, but it's a bugger that I'm half dreaming when it happens. It's what I call interrupted peace. I hope to have a blurb and cover soon.
What's happening around town? The Brisbane Writers Festival is on this week and Cassandra Clare is going to be there. Mortal Instruments? Infernal Devices? Tell me you know these books or I'm going to scowl at you. I am devastated that I have to miss it this year, but there’s always next year and it's for family reasons, so they come first.

Did you see the new releases post for September? My most anticipated book is *drum roll* Dark Wild Nights by Christina Lauren (Wild Seasons #3 - Oliver and Lola’s story). Screwed by Kendall Ryan also looks good, who doesn't love a romantic comedy? Sins of Sevin by Penelope Ward has an interesting trope I’ve never read before - arranged marriage between two religious families. So many great books, I could go on.

My pick of the month is Strong Enough by M. Leighton. Read my review here

Cocky Bastard by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland came a close second. I will post that review soon.

It's always so hard to pick a favourite.

What books are you impatiently waiting for in September?
What books blew your mind in August?
 Let me know.

Cheers
