Hello and welcome to another Fixation Friday! Today we have a special treat. Author K.E. Osborn has answered some of my questions about her writing and the characters in her Satan's Savages MC series.
She's giving away the Kindle version of books 1&2 of the series. ENTER BELOW!
Hi, Kim! Thanks so much for joining us today on The Flare Up.Rockers, bikies, and billionaires... You write some compelling characters. Who has been your favourite group so far? It’s hard to pick a favourite, that’s like picking a favourite child, lol. But if my hands were forced I would probably say my bikers. They were so much fun to write, I have to admit I did love the blood and gore, and the level of crudeness they had in them came easily to me. Probably shouldn’t admit to that.—Haha. Yeah, probably not.Which character has been the hardest to write? The hardest was probably Mad Dog from the MC. He is such an unlikable person, but in his book I wanted to show why he was so unlikable, and that he had his reasons for being such a bad boy. I wanted the readers to feel his emotions and pain toward his family, and to understand why his brain was so scarred and twisted.—He's definitely interesting.Your books are known for shaking up the reader’s emotions. How do you manage to convey such depth in your stories and characters?Hmmm, good question. I think from the experience of life you can draw emotion. My life hasn’t been easy, and I tap into those emotions and try to put them into my books. I know if I’m feeling emotional while writing a scene then readers most likely are going to be feeling that while reading. When writing scenes in The Shattered Heart Series I had to take breaks from writing, because I was bawling my eyes out. When I got feedback from my readers, after they had read those scenes they had the same reactions. So that is rewarding to know my energy is seeping into my words.—It sure does. What is something that a reader will find in your books that they won’t find in others?I try to mix up the emotions, so you will have your drama, but I will always try to add in humour as well, no matter how dark the book, there will always be humour. I always also try to put a dog or some kind of pet into my books being a massive animal lover. I think I have only one book so far that doesn’t have an animal in it.—I think a bit of humour in an otherwise intense book gives the reader a much needed break. Animals in books are usually some of the best characters!Who has been the biggest influence behind your writing style?I don’t think I have an influence on my style, but I do on my genre. EL James was the first Author to show me what romance books could be, and so from reading FSOG and realising it doesn’t have to fit the mould, it opened my eyes and showed me that I wanted to write romance my way. And so now I do.—Good answer! What are we going to be seeing from you in the next year? The options are endless. I have a few coming out at the end of this year, an Olympic Swimming book –Strokes of Gold on August 5th. Who is Kace Colt? a co-authored project between myself and Addison Jane with a yet to be determined release date, but hopefully by the end of the year. Then I am working on another rock series, The Recoil Rock Novels, which is a spin-off from the Next Generation Series of rock books. I know a lot of my readers are hanging for book one in that series as it is about Danger, a character that we met from The Next Generation Series who found himself in a love triangle. After that, I have so many book ideas screaming at me I’m not sure which ones will win out, but I know there’s plenty more to come from me yet.—Yay. Looking forward to it.Let’s talk book covers. Your background is in graphic design. Have you designed all of your covers?Yes, I have. I figure if I have the knowledge to design my covers, why not do them. So I have designed them all, some I did back when I was still a novice, and if I could I would probably make adjustments here and there, but hey you always do that in hindsight don’t you? But I love that I can make my own, so the image in my head comes out exactly how I want. The downside is if you have no inspiration for an idea it can take a long time to come up with something, rather than leaving it to your designer to come up with something fabulous.—Love your work.
What other design work do you do?To be honest, not a lot these days, I tend to only design for myself and help out with the formatting side of the business doing the flourishes for the inside of eBooks, etc., but I don’t make other author’s covers anymore, I simply don’t have the time. The cover model for the first two Satan’s Savages MC books, Dylan Thorp, is a family friend of yours. How did you convince him to model for you? This is a funny story actually. He works for my Auntie, and she suggested jokingly that he should be a cover model for one of my books, and when I saw his latest fitness photo’s online I was like umm… stop joking that would actually be awesome. So the next time I saw Dylan I was like so… umm… wanna be on my cover, and it went from there. He is such an amazing guy to work with, such a professional and so funny too. A really good guy and I can highly recommend him to anyone else looking for a cover model.—I met him at RWDU. He was a lovely guy.If you could say something to your fans what would it be?THANK YOU! Without the readers, this wouldn’t be possible. You guys cheer me up when I feel like things are going haywire. You support me through everything and have been with me since I started in 2012. I love all my readers, new and old, and I’m so grateful that you take the time to read my work. It is an honour to write for you all, and I’m just so glad you enjoy my stories.
Thank you so much to K.E. Osborn for taking the time to answer my questions. If you have a question for K.E. feel free to ask it in the comments below.

Australian author K E Osborn was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. With a background in graphic design and a flair for all things creative, she felt compelled to write the story brewing in her mind.
Writing gives her life purpose. It makes her feel, laugh, cry, and get completely enveloped with the characters and their story lines. She feels completely at home when writing and wouldn’t consider doing anything else.
